              assisted by a grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation, which 
              used the results of our work in the 1994, 1996 and 1998 volumes 
              of Science and Engineering Indicators, and in a 1995 Special Report, 
              Asia's New High-Tech Competitors. A summary of the 1996 project 
              that presents some representative results and available publications

              In our 1999 study, we will update and expand the International High 
              Tech Indicators Panel, develop survey instrument suitable for distribution 
              over the Internet, develop the capability to enter data received 
              via the Internet automatically into the database, gather the most 
              current statistical data, perform basic analyses as necessary, and 
              prepare a final 1999 data set and High Tech Indicators Report. The 
              report will be provided in paper copy and over the web.</font></p>
